I've been doing make-up since I was 10 years old, being influenced by "Planet of the Apes" and the television series "The Wild, Wild West" and "Mission Impossible". What you see on this page are samples of some of my earlier work. Growing up in Casper, Wyoming in the late 1960's gave me very limited access to information and materials, so I tried using oil pastels and Halloween make-up to re-create the classic horror characters I saw on the Saturday monster movie shows on T.V. When I was 11 or 12, I was introduced to the genius of Lon Chaney through the pages of "Famous Monsters of Filmland" magazine, and with the help of Dick Smiths "Monster Make-up Handbook" and Richard Corsons "Stage Make-up", began copying Chaneys characters. By the time I entered high school, I was doing prosthetics for my schools productions and won an International Thespian award in 1976 for Outstanding Achievement in Make-up. I entered the world of professional media in 1977, when I became a radio announcer. This gave me access to do professional make-up for local and regional television spots as well as making friends will fellow announcer Jock Blaney, who did the traveling stage production "An Evening With Mark Twain" from 1979 to 1985, of which I did his prosthetics. In 1985, I moved to Los Angeles to begin my career as a professional make-up effects artist. It was a good time to start in effects because you got to do "everything"on a project, now things have become more specialized. I have worked on almost 100 movies and television shows such as "Terminator 2 and 3", "Dances With Wolves", "Jurassic Park", "Pearl Harbor" "The Money Pit", "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas", "The Ladykillers", "Big Fish" and many others (see resume and portfolio). My degree in dental technology has afforded me the opportunity to specialize in creating dental prosthetics for Tom Hanks, Cameron Diaz, Helena Bonham-Carter and the Jurassic Park dinosaurs! I enjoy living in L.A. with my wife and son, where I hope to have 20 or 30 more years of creating neat "stuff" for movies.
